Work Experience
Higher Education
In January 2007, at the age of 23, Emil started teaching business courses for Pierpont Community & Technical College in Fairmont, West Virginia. There, he taught business, computer science, and college readiness courses to traditional, non-traditional, and incarcerated students. While at Pierpont, he designed and implemented “Business Mathematics” course as a 100% online delivered course.
He was one of the first set of instructors to teach courses at United States Penitentiary – Hazelton Complex in Hazelton, West Virginia. There, he taught introductory business and entrepreneurship courses.
In January 2010, he started teaching courses at Federal Correctional Institution – Gilmer in Glenville, West Virginia. Emil mainly taught Accounting I and Business Law I courses through Glenville State College (now Glenville State University).
In 2012, he accepted the position of Assistant Coordinator of Correctional Education and Off-Campus Programs. In this capacity, Emil was responsible for coordinating off-campus courses for high school students (dual credit program) and evening classes. He also oversaw all courses and educational programs (including curriculum and assessment procedures) at FCI-Gilmer. In 2012, he was able to hold the largest commencement ceremony of 52 inmate students who received an Associate of Science degree in Business.
From 2007 to 2014, Emil taught over 40 different courses in business, computer science, history, college readiness, and general education.
After taking a break from higher education to pursue other career paths, Emil returned to higher education as an admissions recruiter for Upper Iowa University’s Cedar Rapids, Iowa, location. During his time there (2022-2025), he increased the new student and credit hour goals by 35% year-over-year (2022-2023 and 2023-2024 Academic Years), and expanded marketing efforts to include high schools, community centers, and partnerships schools and businesses.
He was instrumental in establishing UIU’s “Admissions Week” for online students throughout the University. Along with his colleagues, the week incorporated undergraduate and graduate admissions virtual open houses, financial aid discussions, (unofficial) credit evaluations for transfer students, and navigating the online classrooms.
Emil took some time off to spend with family before coming back in August 2025 as the new Assistant Professor of Business at UIU’s main campus in Fayette, Iowa. There, he will be teaching business and management courses.
resource development (fundraising) & Marketing
In 2014, Emil accepted a position as a Director of Resource Development and Marketing for The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society in West Virginia.
During the year, Emil was instrumental in securing over $23,000 in gifts and monetary donations to the Center. Being the largest, private healthcare provider in the United States, Emil was able to celebrate the Center’s 40th Anniversary celebration in September 2014.
Hotel/Motel Management
Emil started working in the hotel/motel industry in April 2015. From being either a General Manager, Senior General Manager, or Operations Manager, Emil was responsible for the overall day-to-day operations, forecasting sales, understanding and implementing STAR reports, accounting, marketing, maintenance, and human resources.
Emil has worked for independent brands as well as Motel 6 franchise. He worked in Georgia, Florida, Virginia, Tennessee, and West Virginia, at various sized properties.
Security
Emil accepted a position in the private security sector. Since started in 2017, Emil has worked in retail security. In March 2018, he was promoted to a Field Training Officer (rank of Sergeant) and in July 2018, he was promoted to Senior Supervisor with the rank of Lieutenant.
In retail security, Emil is responsible for daily deployment, uniform inventory, serious crimes investigation and reporting, recognizing Organized Retail Crime (ORC) trends, and creating relationships with local law enforcement and stores/tenants.
